It was an early start for Shanklin yesterday as they travelled down to Swanage for the 8th HDARA regatta of the season. Nevertheless, 4 of the 8 crews entered earned a win in their categories. First on the water was the J16 mixed quad of Rachael Debenham, Sophie Atkin, Riley Horrix, Ethan Walters and Emily Faithfull (cox) who rowed well together to win their final, also beating the J16 boys fours and quads, picking up Shanklin’s first victory of the day. We are now halfway through the HDARA season so here’s an update of all the regattas we have attended and how our crews have done so far: Coalporters- Novice sculler Jamie Gamble rowed up to Junior status and came 2nd in his heat narrowly missing out on a place in the final. Ladies senior pair of Daisy and Emily Faithfull came 1st in a straight final against two crews from Southampton. Three doubles from Shanklin entered Reading Regatta on Sunday. The girls crews of Mia Phelan & Sophie Atkin (J16) and Scarlett Phelan and Kayleigh Batchelor (J13) were once again unfortunate to draw in heats eventual winners but both crews rowed well. Ethan Walters and Riley Hiley ( J14) won their final -beating Windsor Boys by 4 lengths. Congratulations to all crews.
Ethan Walters and Riley Horrix were winners in the J14 double at Walton & Weybridge Regatta on Saturday in the newly named club double Barnsewood . Ethan was second in the the J14 single as were Rachael Debenham and Scarlett Phelan in the J14 double. Mia Phelan and Lottie Tapsell in the J15 double and Kayleigh Batchelor and Scarlett in the J13 double were both knocked out in the preliminary stages of the two boat races, by the eventual winners. Shanklin Regatta rowed in perfect weather and sea conditions was the second day of rowing in the Hants & Dorset calendar at the weekend. The Ladies Senior Pair of Daisy and Emily Faithfull notched up two more wins without any pressure and on Sunday at our home regatta we had several more crews out on the water. Excellent performances from the J16 girls and J14 mixed crew gave us our first two wins of the day, followed by a second and third in the J16 sculls from Riley Horrix
