A weekend double regatta on the river Medina saw Shanklin Sandown Rowing club win 7 trophies and achieve 4 runner-up positions amidst some hotly contested racing.
Saturday saw opportunity for Shanklin’s Junior Men’s Four of Arlo Adds, Carter Horrix, Louis Sheasby, Fred Giemza-Pipe and Esme Walters (cox) to exhibit why they are Hants and Dorset champions, leading from start to finish. Esme went onto be awarded the Cox of the Day Trophy for her outstanding race lines.
Encouraging results were also seen from the Novice Men – 2 in their first race – alongside the Masters Men and Ladies crews who achieved runner-up slots.
On the Sunday, the traditional strength of depth in small boats was once again very apparent, with 10 single scullers taking to the water, producing some fine racing and an improved performance from the Junior Pair. Wins for Fred Giemza-Pipe secured the Hants and Dorset Junior Sculls Championship in fine style, and Louis Sheasby enjoyed an excellent win in the J16 1x.
A welcome return to their home club saw Alex Robertson and Ethan Walters combine well to produce a dominant force and emphatic win in the Senior Men’s Pair, taking the trophy by 3 lengths.
The Juniors were out in force later in the day, with further wins in the J16 Quad for Louis Sheasby, Tobin Green, Isaac King and Arlo Adds and the J14 Mixed Quad of James Travers, Poppy Lawrence, Annabelle Steward and Esme Walters.
With just 2 Hants and Dorset regattas left of the season, SSRC now travel to Coalporters this Saturday for the Small Boats and Junior Regatta, taking a strong contingent of over 25 athletes and novice scullers.
