Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club

IOW Rowing Forum Indoor Rowing Championships


Shanklin Sandown Rowing club hosted the IWRF indoor championships last Sunday with over forty athletes from the three Island clubs taking part.

The competition saw both Junior and adult rowers competing over either a timed race or the standard race distance of 2000m.

The year 7 boys’ race was won by Dexter Robson of Ryde with Josh Batchelor winning the year 8 boys’ event from Harry Watts and Alex Collier.

The Year 9 Girls event was dominated by Shanklin rowers with Connie Batley-Smith winning from Olivia Mumberson and Amelia Chambers second and third respectively.

 The Year 10 Girls was also an all Shanklin affair with Annabelle Steward first from Layla Katirewa in second and Rose Collier in third. The Year 10 Boys saw Cameron Darcy of Ryde win from Joe Bird also of Ryde and Shanklin’s Sam Meadowcroft third.

In the Year 11 Girls event, Alexis Owen of Ryde won with Evie Selway of Shanklin, closely behind and Anna Visser of Shanklin in third whilst in the equivalent Boys event was won by Charlie Watts of Ryde, with Fin Diffey of Ryde second, and Vlad Ignatenko of Newport third.

The Year 12 Girls race was won by Evie Crew of Shanklin, closely followed by Emily Kellerman of Ryde. In the Boys event for this category, was won by Isaac Gibson of Ryde, with Tobin Green of Shanklin, and Lars Groothius of Ryde coming second and third respectively.

 The Year 13 Girls event was won by Theodora Travers of Shanklin and in the boy’s event, it was Joe Roberts of Ryde who came out on top from Ben Robotham and Hayden Tiffin.

In the Female Adults race, it was won by Esme Walters of Shanklin. In the Male Adults race, it was won by Nathaniel Hamilton of Newport, with Paddy Kearney of Ryde coming second, and Jake Garner of Newport coming in third. In the Masters 40+ Event, it was won by Simon Nevitt of Shanklin. The Masters Ladies race saw our largest entry of rowers. In the Masters 40+ event, it was Fiona Owen of Ryde taking top spot over Shanklin’s Anna Scott. The Masters 50+ event saw Lisa Robertson of Shanklin take first place, with Lisa Atkin and Stella Gamble of Shanklin, coming second and third respectively. In the Masters 60+ race, it was Julie Clarke of Newport win, over Jane Denby-Roach of Shanklin.
