Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club

Success at Dorney and Poole!

It was a busy weekend for the club with crews racing at both Dorney and Poole.

The club had three crews travel to Dorney Lake for the National Schools regatta, the country’s biggest junior rowing event.

Carter and Louis produced another dominant performance to win the boys J16 double sculls. The crew won the time trial by ten seconds and then in the final led from the start holding a boat length’s lead over their main challengers before extending that to two lengths in the closing stages.

Fred secured an excellent fifth spot in the B final of the J18 single sculls, one of the toughest of all the events on offer, with four rounds of competition just to get to a final, recording a new pb time for 2k in the process.

The girl’s J14 coxed quad of Rose, Connie, Ella, Layla & Esme (cox), were also experiencing this level of competition for the first time but produced an excellent performance to finish third in the B final.

Kayleigh was also competing for her school, St Edwards, winning the silver medal by the closest of margins.

Esme competed in the Ladies Novice sculls at Poole, coping well in choppy conditions to record a superb third spot on her coastal sculling debut and there were fifth place finishes for the Men’s Junior pair of Kev and John and the Masters crew of Jane, Gary, Kev, John & Garry.

There were wins in the junior events for the girls J14 quad and the girls J14 double of Layla and Connie, with crew mates Izzy and Rose finishing in second spot. Layla also took the runners up spot in the J16 single sculls.

The mixed quad of James, Olivia, Sam, Poppy and Arlo finished in second spot, whilst the J16 girl’s quad of Poppy, Olivia, Evie and Evie finished in fourth place as did the new J14 double pairing of James and Sam, an excellent result after just a few outings.

Another new pairing of Evie Crew and Evie Selway finished fifth in the J16 doubles sculls, again after just a few outings on the water.
