Itchen Regatta

Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club sponsored this year by Advanced Automotive had several crews competing at the Itchen Imperial Regatta on Saturday 8th August. Racing was staged in three boat heats along the Itchen river in Southampton with buoy turns on the half distance course.

Junior Sculls heat 1 saw Harry Miselbach recently promoted to this status produce an excellent row and buoy turn to win by a canvas over Newport "A" and Lymington "A" to qualify for the finals.

Heat 2 saw Joe Evans-Murray row confidently to take another win by one length over Westover"A" and also qualify for the finals. The 3 boat final turned out to be a close race between Joe and the Coalporters sculler who were both level at the buoy turns but it was Coalporters who edged ahead and took the win with Joe finishing in a close 2nd place.

Ladies Junior Fours crew of Lisa Robertson, Rebecca Nigh, Amber De Landro, Daisy Faithfull and cox Alex Robertson produced an excellent performance in their semi final with a good buoy turn but were outpaced by Westover "A" who qualified for the finals.

Mens Junior Fours crew of Joe Robertson, Matt Miselbach, Jamie Gamble, Harry Misebach and cox Alex Robertson put a real challenge with an excellent row in their heat against the Southsea and Itchen Imperial crews but just missed out on qualifying for the finals by half a length.

Alex Robertson rowed in the Mens Senior Sculls heat against Ryde and Itchen Imperial and this again turned out to be a close race as the Itchen sculler took the qualifying win for the finals.

In the mens Coastal Doubles Heat 1, Alex Robertson and Matt Miselbach were drawn in the outside lane against Poole and Westover but tragically just after the start had a collision with Poole when the crew were avoiding the Itchen bridge supports in the river, the race was stopped and the Shanklin crew received an unfortunate and questionable disqualification.

Alex and Matt later competed in the Mens Senior pairs heat against BTC "B" and Poole "A" they rowed well but unfortunately did not qualify for the finals.

These crews will be competing at the BTC Regatta this Saturday 15th August at Woolston shore, Southampton
