Daisy Faithful on the left with her medal

Shanklin have seen vast amounts of success at the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships over the last few years, having taken home gold silver and bronze medals in recent events. 2016 was to prove no exception, with yet another medal being added, as well as fantastic placings for all of those attending.

The first rower of the day for the club was Ethan Walters in his first ever performance for the club at NJRIC. He performed brilliantly and his placing of 49th out of 198 in the year 7 boys event was an incredible achievement for his first time at Lea Valley.

Following on from a great start, Emily Faithful raced in the year 9 girls race. The event saw 230 girls entered, not dawnted by this however Emily put in a PB performance to place an incredible 20th.

A lengthy wait followed before the final races of the day for the club, which saw three Year 11 boys race. Joe Robertson, Henry Mudge and Jamie Gamble all scored PBs on the day, with Henry finishing 19th, Jamie in 17th and Joe finishing just inside the top ten. A brilliant achievment by all three rowers in an event with almost 60 competitors.

The already fantastic day was brought to an emphatic conclusion by Daisy Faithful in the Year 11 girls competition. Daisy stormed her event, finishing with a PB to finish 3rd out of 48. The incredible achievement was duely celebrated with medal ceremony led by Olympic gold medalist Mark Hunter.

Shanklin would like to thank Sandown Bay Academy who once again provided the logistics to get all rowers to London and give them the fantastic opportuniy that NJIRC provides.
