Smiles all round at junior regatta

The Isle of Wight Rowing Forum's annual junior regatta rolled into its 5th year and the 2016 event proved that junior rowing on the island shows no sign of slowing. The IWRF, a collaborative group of all three island clubs has continued to succeed in its goal of promoting rowing on the Island, with Sundays event a prime example of the product of this cooperation.

The event puts all rowers names into a hat, and draws them out into scratch crews that then race each other in Quads, Doubles and Single sculls. Shanklin had 5 rowers attend the event, Emily Faithful, Daisy Faithful, Ethan Walters, Riley Horrix and Joe Robertson.

The event ran on the hight tide between 11 and 3 with a fairly strong tail wind providing an added factor into the racing.

All rowers competed in various boat classes and all left with atleast one medal of some colour.

The regatta was once again a huge success, it would not however be possible without the continued cooperation of all three island clubs and their coaches, who all deserve the praise for this success.
