Shanklin crews do the double at Deal!!!
Shanklin Sandown Rowing club enjoyed a successful end to the season at the South coast championships. The club had three crews in the junior event with the J14 boy’s crew of Owen Denness, Sam Evans-Murray, Riley Horrix, Ethan Walters and Daisy Faithfull finishing second, whilst the girls J16 A, of Kayleigh Batchelor, Sophie Atkin, Emily Faithfull, Yasmin Wright and Ethan Walters ( Cox) also finished in the runners up spot with the club’s B crew of Scarlett Phelan, Lottie Tapsell, Mia Phelan, Rachael Debenham and Daisy Faithfull finished third.
In the main event the crew of Andrew Tapsell, Sam Evans-Murray, Riley Horrix, Ethan Walters and Daisy Faithfull (cox), sprung a surprise by winning the Men’s novice fours event. The crew found themselves in contention with host club Deal, and as they reached the final 250m saw their lead being ebbed away, however, a shipwreck in the Deal crew saw Shanklin take the victory.
The Club’s novice Ladies crew of Yasmin Wright, Lottie Tapsell, Mia Phelan, Sophie Atkin and Emily Faithfull (Cox), had a storming row in their race, leading from the start and completely demolishing all before them to win by ten lengths, the largest winning margin of the day.
The club would like to thank Ryde RC for transporting their boats.
