Shanklin Sandown rowing club secured an excellent eight wins over two regattas last weekend. The club enjoyed success at Swanage on Saturday where the Men’s junior four of George Glenister, Jamie Gamble, Riley Horrix, Ethan Walters and Emily Faithfull won in fine style to take their fourth point of the Hants & Dorset season and also increased the club’s lead in the Men’s Junior pairs with another win for Glenister and Gamble.
Emily Faithfull secured her second win in the ladies novice sculls event, and with it promotion to junior status in a final which saw all three Shanklin novice scullers competing, with Rachael Debenham finishing third and Lottie Tapsell fifth.
The club’s fourth win of the day came in the girl’s J16 quad of Kayleigh Batchelor, Tapsell, Debenham, Yasmin Wright and Daisy Faithfull (Cox)with a convincing victory.
The novice ladies boat finished third in their final, whilst the novice men missed out on a place in the final and the men’s masters finished fourth.
The club’s juniors then contested Reading amateur regatta on the Sunday and came away with another four wins. Ethan Walters & Riley Horrix won the J15 double sculls, but only after digging deep to win their first round race by just two feet, and after a fairly comfortable semi final, beat a crew from Leander in the final.
Lottie Tapsell took her first sculling win with a very determined performance in the Girls J16 single sculls, whilst club mate, Kayleigh Batchelor won the Girls J14 single. The club’s fourth win came from Horrix in the J15 single sculls event.
Emily Faithfull & Owen Denness both continue to show promise but tough draws in their respective events saw them suffer early defeats
The club will again have a double header this weekend, with crews competing at Newport on Saturday and Thames Valley Park on Sunday
The club would like to thank both Newport & Ryde rowing clubs for their help in transporting the club boats.
