Five Fantastic Wins at Poole Regatta!

Shanklin Sandown rowing club travelled to Poole on Sunday to compete in the latest round of the Hants & Dorset championship. The Men’s Junior four of George Glenister, Jamie Gamble, Riley Horrix, Ethan Walters & cox Emily Faithfull secured another victory in the race for the H&D championship. This result makes it their fifth win this season, which extends their lead to three points and guarantees the crew a spot in their respective championship event at the South Coast championships in September.

In the Men’s Junior pairs event, Gamble & Glenister also secured the club’s fourth point in the championship with a comfortable victory, meaning the club is just one point away from winning the championship.

The Ladies Novice four of Scarlett Phelan, Zoe Bushby, Kayleigh Batchelor, Rachael Debenham & cox Yasmin Wright, after a rocky start, secured a superb victory to earn promotion to Junior status. Batchelor subsequently took the club’s fourth win of the day with a victory in the girls’ J16 sculls event, with Wright coming home third and Debenham fourth. In the boys’ J16 event, Owen Denness put in another improved performance, but just missed out on the final.

The Ladies Junior four of Yasmin Wright, Sophie Atkin, Bass Andre, Rachael Debenham & cox Daisy Faithfull rowed well to finish third in their heat to qualify for the final; where they produced their best performance yet at junior status to finish fifth.

The club’s remarkable day concluded with a fifth win, this time for the returning Bass Andre who produced an excellent performance in the Ladies Novice sculls final. Yasmin Wright also made the final where she finished a creditable sixth. Bass’ victory gives the club a third win this season in this event to lead the club championship.

The club now turns its attention to Coalporters Regatta in two weeks time, as well as the British Junior Rowing Championships in Nottingham that weekend.
