Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club

Gold at Junior Inter Regional Regatta!

The club enjoyed success at the Junior Inter Regional regatta held in Nottingham last weekend.

We had three crews qualify for the Wessex team with Louis & Carter winning the gold medal in the J16 double sculls. This was the third year in succession that the boys have been on the top step of the podium after winning at both J14 & J15 in the last two years.

The pair finished second in the time trial over 1k, but in the final over 1500m the crew led from the start, opening up a length lead which they held all the way through the race.

The girls J14 double of Ella & Layla secured a place in the B final after their time trial, where they finished in fifth place, and despite a mix up with timings from the time trial, the quad of Izzy, Connie, Layla, Rose & Esme also finished in fifth spot in the B final.

The girls J14 squad are showing great promise and for Connie and Rose it was their first experience at this level of competition.

Fred was also competing in Nottingham this weekend in the GB U19 trials regatta finishing inside the top thirty in the country.

The Junior squad will now travel to Eton Dorney in May, with Carter, Louis & Fred contesting both The Scullery and National Schools events at either end of the month, whilst the other members of the Junior squad will be competing at the Ball Cup before the start of the H&D season at Milford.
