Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club enjoyed a double-header regatta last weekend in Southampton.
The Ladies Junior Pair of Anna Scott and Esme Walters strode out to victory at Woolston Regatta, after coming third at BTC the previous day. The race was won following a rerow due to a clash after the start. The crew lead from the restart and went on to win by two lengths.
The Ladies Novice Four of Chloe Walker, Theodora Travers, Anna Visser, Rose Collier & Esme Walters (Cox), had a quick start to find themselves in the leading pack alongside Itchen RC and Newport to the buoys. With a strong buoy turn, they found themselves out in front.
The crew increased their lead out to two lengths on the return leg to secure victory and promotion to H&D Junior status.
The Girls J16 Quad of Anna Visser, Summer Marvin (Southampton ARC), Lottie Pettitt, Rose Collier won the event over Lymington ARC, with the Mixed J14 Quad of Alex Collier, Olivia Mumberson, Martha Eggleton, Digby Ridgwell & Paul Gamble (Cox), also winning their event too.
In the J16 Scull races, Rose Collier had another success in the girl’s race, coming in a close second, whilst Digby Ridgwell came fifth, racing against athletes two years older than him, with both scullers racing in a coastal event for the first time.
Esme Walters raced in the Ladies Novice Sculls where she came third. The Boys J16 Quad of James Travers, Sam Meadowcroft, Fin Diffey, Isaac King & Paul Gamble (Cox) came fifth as did the Men’s Junior Four of Huseyin Yolcu, Sam, Isaac, Fin & Esme Walters (Cox). This is a great achievement as they have only recently been promoted from Novice status.
