Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club fielded a strong set of crews at Coalporters Regatta last weekend in Southampton, continuing with their successful season to date. The regatta held on the River Itchen consists of three boat racing over a 1500m course.
The highlight was the Men’s Junior Four of Fred Giemza-Pipe, Louis Sheasby, Carter Horrix, Arlo Adds, and Esme Walters (cox), who took the win in a competitive final against fellow Island club Ryde and Southampton based Itchen Rowing club. This leaves the boys with a promising lead in the H&D championship. Fred enjoyed further success with a second win in the Men’s Junior Scull. Just a week after being promoted to the category, he finds himself a key contender in the race for the overall championship.
The Masters Men’s forty crew and the Ladies masters crew both finished third in their respective heats, whilst the improving Men’s Junior pair of Kev Faithfull and John Langborne just missed out on a place in the final in a close finish to their heat.
The Novice Ladies Four of Lisa Atkin, Evie Crew, Hayley Owen, and Lottie Pettitt of Ryde despite suffering a slight shipwreck off the start, regained their composure and fought back to finish in second spot in their heat.
The club are again in Southampton this weekend for BTC regatta at Weston shore.
