Esme Walters and Anna Scott secured the Hants & Dorset Ladies Junior pairs championship on Saturday following two impressive races at Itchen regatta.
The semi-final saw them beat local opposition from Southampton before an excellent race in the final against a crew from Christchurch who were the only crew who could take the championship from them.
With both crews together as they approached the turning buoys, a good turn from Shanklin saw them gain a two-length advantage, which they increased out to five lengths by the finish.
The club has a strong history in this event winning this title for the third time in eight years and it’s the eleventh consecutive year the club has won an H&D championship.
There was a welcome return from Frances Katirewa in the single scull taking an early lead which she maintained for most of the race, only to be caught by the championship leader, after being hit by a patch of squally water.
The Junior Ladies crew enjoyed their first race at their new status just narrowly missing out on the semis, whilst the Junior Men’s crew of Sam Meadowcroft, Tobin Green, Isaac King, Fin Diffey & Esme Walters stormed through their heat and had another good row in their semi-final but just missed out on the final by a length.
